GMAD 2004 Angel Awards

NEW YORK--November 1, 2004

Dear Friends:

I realize that this may come at short notice but I want to invite you attend the Gay Men of African Descent 2004 Angel Awards on Friday, November 12th at the Brooklyn Museum, from 6:30 pm –10:30 pm. This event will celebrate the contributions that several people have made to the communities of gay men of African descent and those impacted by HIV/AIDS through their financial assistance, public advocacy, tireless support, artistic endeavors and innovation ideas. Some of the names you may know, others are unfamiliar to you but their efforts to the betterment of our communities are undeniable. The honorees are: Howard Buford, John Dempsey, Gordon Chambers, Len McNally, Donna Payne, Harold Robinson and Michael Saunders, and they represent business, community, music, politics, and philanthropy.

The tickets for this fundraiser are $100.00 and can be reserved by either calling the office at 212.828.1697 ext. 0 for David Mayer or going online to www.gmad.org. GMAD has gone through some difficult times in the last year and is in the process of trying to rebuilt itself after losing over 70% of their governmental funding and now it must rely on the contributions and support from the community and donors to keep the doors open and continue to provide services for the populations which are in dire need. This is a worthy organization that has provided advocacy, camaraderie, education, entertainment, and support to all of us in one way or another.

George Bellinger, Jr. is a community, civil and human rights activist who has dedicated himself to fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic for over two decades. Among his many awards and commendations is 2001 Honoree of "Heroes of the Struggle," an organization that reflects the diverse and exceptional ways that Black people can and are fighting AIDS.
